In just a few months, marijuana users may be able to buy their pot in Taunton. Commonwealth Alternative Care on Mozzone Boulevard is in the process of adding recreational marijuana to their current medical marijuana menu.
What is now 47,300 square feet of usable space will become 127,530 square feet. Of that total amount 8,000 square feet will be used as an “equipment pad” for HVAC machinery, generators and other essential gear.
The original plan called for an extra 5,000 square feet, but the city’s Planning Board ruled that it could only be used for additional parking, which is now part of the plan.
Key to the expansion in the existing building at 30 Mozzone Boulevard was the 48,000-square-foot vacancy left this year — after WeCare Organics of New York state, doing business as WeCare Environmental LLC, broke a 20-year trash-recycle contract with the city by suddenly shutting down its materials recovery facility, or MRF for short.
